Nanjing
University of Chinese Medicine (NJUCM) was established
in 1954 in Nanjing, the ancient capital throughout
ten dynasties, and is one of the oldest TCM institutions
of higher education in China. It is located in
the west part of the city, adjacent to the beautiful
Black Dragon Lake.
Being one of the World Health Organization Collaborative
(WHO) Centers on Traditional Medicine, NJUCM is
authorized by the Chinese Ministry of Public Health
to be an International Acupuncture Training Center.
It is also a Training Base for TCM teachers, a
clinical pharmacology base and one of the first
authorized TCM universities to enroll and train
overseas students. At present, there are about
12660 students studying on campus, including over
1500 Master and Doctoral students and over 1300
overseas students.
NJUCM consists of 12 teaching units: The College of Basic Medicine;
The First College of Clinical Medicine; The Second College
of Clinical Medicine; The college of Pharmacology;
The College of Financial Management; The Adult
Education College; The Nursing College ; The College
of Foreign Studies; The College of Information
and Technology; and The International Education
College (Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Education
Center),etc.
NJUCM is currently running two seven-year Master’s
program of TCM, an integrated TCM and Western
medicine course and a five-year undergraduate
program of TCM including Chinese Pharmacology,
Acupuncture and Moxibustion, Chinese Medical Massage
(Tuina), Engineering of Pharmacology, Chinese
Pharmaceutics, TCM Nursing, International Economy
and Trade, and TCM Administration of Public Health.
Nanjing
International Education College (Hong Kong ,Macao
and Taiwan Education Center) is responsible for
enrollment and administration of overseas students
for the programs of Bachelor, Master ,Ph.D and
other various short-term training courses. This
college is a teaching unit within the NJUCM and
comprises of various general and individual services.
It has a strong academic staff, experienced in
both theory and clinical training, All the teachers
are well versed in the history and development
of TCM and acupuncture, and understand international
students’ individualities and specific requirements.
As a result, classes are well organized, combining
both theory courses and clinical practice.
Nanjing International Education College is composed
of the following departments: Administrative Office,
International Students Office, Teaching Administration
Office, Chinese Language Teaching Office and International
Service Center which is also called the JingXing
Hotel. Each department has its own distinctive
responsibilities so as to provide better service
in accommodation and teaching, including enrollment
of the international students, designing and teaching
of TCM programs and also the designing and teaching
of the Chinese Language programs.
The university takes an active part in international
cooperation and academic exchange, and the numbers
of international students have increased with
the development of The International Education
College. It now exceeds 8000 students in over
90 countries.
